Trolltunga

On the 15th of September I returned the keys for my apartment in geilo and we crossed Hardangervidda and drove down to  Odda- a small village located by  Sørfjorden in Hordaland. Before driving the remaining 750km back to my hometown in Sweden we were going to hike to Trolltunga- one pf the most popular hiking trails and mountain formations in Norway. So popular that it have been videly discussed if there should be restrictions on how and whom should be able to hike it. We drove from Odda just haver 8.00 in the morning and arrived to the starting point…

Norway- time’s up

August passed by in a second. Two weeks ago I came home after visiting friends from University in Estonia and yesterday I picked up Josch at the AirPort in Oslo. The last 21 months I have driven the 3,5h road down to Oslo every 6th or 8th week. Either to pick up Josch or to fly out and meet him. But yesterday was the last day we and I did this trip. He has said goodbye to his life in Germany for the next year to come and in one week we will leave Geilo and drive down to my…

Budalen and beyond

The last week the weather has surprised everyone in this mountain village.  It have been hot. Over 20 degrees Celsius. And sun. Ohh sun! Lucky I had off from work two of the best days last week and of course the time was spent outside. The first tour this week went through  Budalen and towards Raggsteinsdalen. Since I live almost up in Havsdalen in Geilo I am able to step right out on the trails that lead to Budalen. If you start from Geilo centre you can follow the trail named Pilvegen up to Geilohovda/Geilo toppen and then get on…

Ut på tur- alltid sur

In Scandinavia we have a saying: ”ut på tur aldrig sur” which roughly translates to if you go outside for hiking or other outdoor activities you will never be angry. And I think it is a very accurate saying. Sometimes you can have hard days at the mountain, but as the day goes by you overcomes your inner obstacles and carry on along the trail. However, I am not entirely sure if two of my best friends that were visiting me this weekend would agree with this. When I have people visiting me here in Geilo I really want to…

Ustedalsfjorden rundt- from the sunny side

On days like this I feel a bit ashamed that I sometimes complain over the weather here in Norway. Perfect temperature down in the valley today so I spent the afternoon around the lake here in Geilo- Ustedalsfjorden. There is a well groomed gravel path around the lake and also many opportunites to de-tour on smaller trails. Last summer I lived down by the lake and did at least run or walk around the lake a few times every week. Since I moved to another apartment last October I have not been down here too much since there are other…

Hakkesetstølen

It has been a month since I last published anything here, and in less than a week June is already over and we will be entering into July. Time moves fast but somehow it feels like it is moving far too slow at times. Life in the mountains might not always be the most exciting. It is a slow life- hectic at work and not so much except nature to experience on your spare time. Since I came back from Halmstad I must admit that it have been a bit challenging to set into the mountain environment again.  Even if…

Finse 1222

Somehow I ended up  on the 11.56 train to Finse today. A friend has his cousin from Chicago visiting and they had plans to take a visit to Finse- a small mountain village centred on Finse Station- the highest station in Norway located at an elevation of 1222 metres above sea level. Even if I have been living in Geilo for one and a half year I have not taken the time to visit Finse, so when I got the question of I wanted to join them (despite bad weather conditions) I could not really say no. Unfortunately I left my…
