Decembersnow

After two weekends with Christmas events at work we headed out for a cross-country tour earlier today.

Christmas feeling a work

This afternoon we intended to take the first tour for this season to Prestholtseter- a mountain café and the end destination of a really nice cross-country trail. The weather looked promising; a few minus degrees and sun. I already started the cross-country season for around a month ago but it is still in the beginning of the season and the temperature is swinging radically. And as a consequence so is the snow and trail quality. We got a lot of snow in the beginning of November but the last weeks have been giving us hard winds, light snowfall mixed with plus degrees and cold nights. Hence many of the trails up in the higher region are dressed in ice. A lot of ice.

Hence we did not reach Prestholtseter. Instead we turned around on another trail which was much better made and ended up back at the car 1,5h later. So now we are only waiting for the snow to come in order to explore new terrain and new trails in Hallingdal.
